அரச மரத்தடியில் குடியிருக்கும் எளிமையான தெய்வம் விநாயகர். ஆவணி சுக்லபக்ஷ சதுர்த்தியில் (அமாவாசைக்கு அடுத்த நான்காம் நாள்) அவதரித்தவர். விநாயகர் சிவ பார்வதியின் முதல் மகனாவார். யானைத்தலையும் பானைவயிறும் படைத்தவர். இந்து மதத்தில் எந்த தெய்வத்தை பூஜித்தாலும் முதலில் விநாயகரை வழிபட்ட பிறகே அந்த தெய்வத்தை வணங்குவர்.
பாண்டிச்சேரியில் மணக்குள விநாயகர் கும்பகோணத்தில் கரும்பாயிரம் கொண்ட விநாயகர் போன்று காஞ்சிபுரத்தில் சங்குபாணி விநாயகர் மிக 2பிரசித்தி பெற்றவர். காஞ்சியில் சித்ரகுப்தன் கோவிலுக்கும் உலகளந்த பெ22ருமாள் கோவிலுக்கும் இடையில் அமைந்துள்ள ஆலயம் சங்குபாணி விநாயகர் ஆலயம் ஆகும்.
கைகளில் சங்கு தரித்ததால் இவர் சங்குபாணி விநாயகர் ஆனார். விநாயகர் சதுர்த்தி விழா இவ்வாலயத்தில் மிகச் சிறப்பாகக் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. இந்த ஆண்டு செப்டம்பர் 5ஆம் தேதி விநாயகர் சதுர்த்தி விழா ஆகும்

Lord Vinayagar is the simple God resides even under Arasu Tree. He was born on Avani Shuklapaksha Chathruthi (4th day after Amavasya). He is Lord Shiva and Parvathi’s first Son. He has the Elephant head and pot stomach. In Hinduism any Lord’s worship is being done only after performing the initial pooja to him
Simillar to Manakula Vinayagar Temple at Pondicherry, Karumbaiyram Konda Vinayagar at Kumbakonam, Sangupani Vinayagar at Kanchipuram is so famous. At Kanchi, this temple lies between Chitraguptan Temple and the Ulagalandha Perumal temple.
Since he hold Sangu (Conch) in his hands he is called Sangupani Vinayagar. Vinayagar Chathurthi is being celebrated in this temple in a grand manner. This year September 5th is celebrated as Vinayagar Chathurthi.
